Searching for specific text within files on UNIX and cygwin

Use the find, xargs, and grep command in combination (from the root of the directory you are in, it will search all sub-directories):

UNIX

> find .  –type f | xargs grep “<SEARCH_STRING>”

Windows (cygwin)

> find .  –noleaf –type f | xargs grep “<SEARCH_STRING>”
